DinoMech T-Rex Skull BR0005 | 916-Piece Motorized Building Set
Share
Model BR0005 · DinoMech Series
A T-Rex skull that moves, glows, roars and breathes — 916 pieces with the mechanism left exposed on purpose. Brass-toned gears, shock absorbers and hydraulic lines sit in plain view against a silver skull frame, so the finished piece reads as much like a machine as a fossil.
Key Takeaways
- Four effects — moving jaw, red LED eye, roar audio and mist breath — all run together from one power button.
- The classic predator silhouette: a silver skull frame with a long tooth-lined jaw, mechanism left visible against it.
- Brass-toned gears, shock absorbers and hydraulic lines sit in plain view — the finished piece reads as a machine, not a fossil cast.
- 916 pieces in ABS, 11 inches tall on its stand, printed manual included, ages 14+.
- You fit the motor, speaker, LED and mist parts yourself — the drive unit is part of the build, not a sealed module.
Most display models sit still. This one opens its jaw on a visible gear train, lights a red eye, plays a low roar, and releases mist from between its teeth. At 11 inches tall on its stand, it holds a shelf or desk corner on its own — the original predator, rebuilt as a machine you can watch work.

⚙️ What it does — four effects, one button
All four effects run together from a single power button. There is no separate control for each function — one press starts them together, one press stops them.
-
01 · Moving jaw — the lower jaw drives open and closed on a gear train, cycling through a slow bite. The whole linkage stays visible as it works.
-
02 · Red LED eye — a translucent red lens set deep in the socket stays lit while the unit runs. It reads best in a dim room.
-
03 · Roar audio — a speaker in the base plays a low predator roar in time with the jaw.
- -04 · Mist breath — fill the reservoir and vapour rolls out between the teeth as the jaw opens. Nothing is heated; the mist is cool vapour.
🦿 The mechanism is the point
The 916-piece build leaves the mechanism exposed on purpose. Brass-toned gears, shock absorbers and hydraulic lines sit in plain view against the silver skull frame, so you can trace which gear drives the jaw and where the linkage runs down to the base. It's the same idea a cutaway engine model uses — leave the workings where you can read them.
🦷 The classic predator silhouette
This is the one everyone recognises on sight — the long tooth-lined jaw, the deep eye socket, the heavy silver frame. Set it beside the Triceratops or the Pterosaur in the series and the T-Rex is the anchor: forward-facing, planted, unmistakable from across the room.
Before You Buy — Three Things to Know
So there are no surprises when the box arrives.
- Batteries aren't included. You'll need 6 × AAA. Loose batteries can't be shipped internationally by air, so no set ships with them — pick any standard alkaline AAA.
- Runtime is about 30 minutes of continuous operation per set of batteries. A display piece you switch on when you want the effects, not one to leave running all day.
- Use purified or distilled water in the mist reservoir. Tap water leaves mineral scale that will clog the unit over time. No oils, fragrances or additives.
The Build
🔧 You assemble the drive unit yourself
The motor, speaker, LED and mist components come as parts, not as a sealed module — fitting them is part of the build. The printed manual walks through it step by step alongside the rest of the skull, so it stays approachable even if this is your first mechanical set.
🧱 Bricks and fit
All 916 pieces are moulded in ABS to a tight clutch tolerance. Connections hold without creeping, so the finished skull keeps its pose on a shelf indefinitely, and pieces come apart cleanly if you want to rebuild.
🔗 Compatibility with other brick systems
Standard stud sizing throughout — the bricks interlock with most major brick systems if you want to extend the base or the display.

🧴 Care
Dust the skull with a soft dry cloth. Empty the mist reservoir when you're not running the model, and refill only with purified or distilled water — mineral scale from tap water is the main cause of a mist unit clogging. Keep the motor, speaker and LED away from water when cleaning, and keep the finished piece out of prolonged direct sunlight so the silver frame and brass tones hold their colour.
Questions
What batteries does it take, and why aren't they included?
6 × AAA. Loose batteries can't be sent by international air freight, so no set ships with them. Standard alkaline AAA from any supermarket will do.
How long does it run on one set of batteries?
Around 30 minutes of continuous operation. Most owners switch it on to show it off rather than run it constantly, so a set lasts a good while.
Can I turn the sound off and keep the mist?
No — all four effects run on the same circuit and start together from one button. If you want it silent, display it with the power off; the skull holds its pose either way.
What water goes in the mist reservoir?
Purified or distilled water only. Tap water leaves mineral scale that builds up and eventually clogs the unit. Never use oils, fragrances or any additive. Nothing is heated — the mist is cool vapour, and water is the only thing you ever need to refill.
Do I have to build the motor unit myself?
Yes. The motor, speaker, LED and mist parts are fitted during the build rather than arriving as a sealed module. The printed manual covers those steps in the same illustrated format as the rest of the model.
Does it work as a static display with the power off?
Yes. The skull holds its pose whether or not the effects are running, so it works as a shelf piece on its own and you switch it on when you want it.
How does it compare with the others in the DinoMech series?
Same one-button operation and build logic across the series. The T-Rex is the classic — all silver with a long tooth-lined jaw and a red eye. The Triceratops is wider through a brass-tone frill; the Pterosaur is the tallest and most gear-dense, with a green eye. The T-Rex is the anchor of the set.
Is it a good gift?
The build is substantial enough to be a real project, and the finished piece actually does something — which makes it land better than a static model for a birthday, anniversary or Christmas. The T-Rex is the one most people picture first, so it's the safest pick of the series as a gift.
