01

The build, in short

Overview

The BR0017 pairs bionic entomology with cyber industrial styling, built from 944 precision ABS bricks. It captures a mantis's predatory build in full: serrated hunting foreclaws, segmented walking legs, translucent honeycomb wings and long antennae, with exposed gear groups laid out inside the body so you learn the transmission as you build.

The base model is static with fully hand-movable joints. A separately sold dynamic kit adds motors and 2.4G remote control for automatic crawling and claw swinging. Comes with a branded base and metal nameplate. Built for desktop display, STEM teaching and bug-hobby collectors aged 14+.

Multi-axis gear movement

The foreclaws, six walking legs, abdomen and wing roots all run off internal gears in a multi-axis layout. Twist the exposed gears by hand and the limbs move in sync, reproducing the mantis's clamping strike and walking gait. Because the gears stay exposed, you can watch exactly how interlocking teeth drive coordinated motion across many parts.

02

Wings & optional motion

Custom honeycomb PVC wings

The wings use an exclusive PVC material with a honeycomb grid print — soft, tough and break-resistant, in a semi-transparent purple cyber finish. They flip up and down freely on connecting shafts to match the mantis's pose. These special-shaped wings are tooled exclusively for this model.

Optional 2.4G RC upgrade (sold separately)

The standard product is a pure static model with hand-movable joints. The RC function needs the separately sold kit — an L-type motor, a 2.4G multi-button remote and a rechargeable lithium battery box. After fitting it per the wiring guide, the mantis crawls under remote control with automatic foreleg swinging and linked limb motion.

Design & make

Cyberpunk detailing

Metallic silver electroplated bricks form the main frame, set against navy blue mechanical parts and translucent purple trim. Cyber-line decals and pipework bricks build up the industrial sci-fi texture. Antennae, serrated claw teeth, segmented leg joints and abdominal gear pipes are all finely restored — part real bionic detail, part futuristic machine.

Materials & craftsmanship

Hard parts use high-toughness ABS with a firm friction fit that resists loosening after repeated rebuilds. The wings use custom flexible PVC that resists cracking and bending. Gears are precision-moulded to mesh tightly and turn without jamming. A dedicated black display stand with engraved nameplate holds the mantis steady for display and photography from any angle.

What you'll learn (STEM)

Building it covers gear transmission, multi-axis linkage, crank-and-rod motion and bionic limb design. Along the way you take in both insect body structure and mechanical drive logic — a strong hands-on STEM aid that builds spatial imagination, structural reasoning and assembly patience.

Safety & care

Small parts. Contains small bricks — choking hazard. Age 14+. Keep small parts away from children under 3. Don't force the gears or movable claws. Build strictly by the manual.

PVC wings. Keep the wings out of prolonged high heat to avoid warping, and avoid scratching the honeycomb surface with sharp objects.

RC upgrade. The standard mantis has no motor, remote or battery. Add motion only with the official RC kit, follow the wiring steps to avoid a short circuit, and remove the battery for long-term storage.
