🐞 The Strongest Insect on Earth, Rebuilt as a Poseable Mechanical Build

The Hercules beetle is pound-for-pound one of the strongest animals alive — and instantly recognised by the long curved horn on its head. BR0013 rebuilds it as a 939-piece mechanical specimen: a broad armoured shell, six articulated legs, and that signature horn, with the mechanical joint structure left visible on purpose.

Out of the box it's a static, fully poseable display model — no batteries, no wiring. Every leg poses independently. The horn adjusts for a charging or resting stance. And because everything holds its pose, it works as a desk piece you can re-stage whenever you like.

In the insect world, the Hercules beetle doesn't rely on speed or venom — it relies on structure. Its exoskeleton is a masterclass in load-bearing engineering: lightweight, segmented, and strong enough to lift hundreds of times its own body weight. A mechanical building set that captures that same logic in bricks isn't just a model. It's a study in how natural engineering translates into mechanical design.

📦 What's in the standard set

Included:

  • 939 precision ABS bricks — staged in numbered bags by build phase
  • Broad armoured shell with layered plates; olive-green body with amber wing pattern
  • Six articulated legs — each leg poses independently
  • Signature long curved horn — adjusts for charging or resting pose
  • Exposed mechanical joint structure — linkages stay visible
  • Full-colour illustrated step-by-step instruction manual

Standard build: no batteries, no motor, no wiring. Every mechanical feature — legs, horn, joints — operates by hand, every time.

🐞 Poseable mechanical anatomy
  • Signature long horn: the Hercules beetle's famous horn adjusts angle for a charging or resting pose
  • Six articulated legs: each leg poses independently, so the beetle can stand, climb an edge, or brace for display
  • Exposed joint structure: the mechanical linkages stay visible — part armour, part machine

Because everything holds its pose, it works as a desk piece you can re-stage whenever you like. The broad armoured shell is built from layered plates, with the underside and joints left open to show the mechanical skeleton — a "specimen meets machine" look.

⚙️ Optional motor upgrade — sold separately

Want it to move on its own? The separately sold Motor Upgrade Kit installs into the body and brings the mechanism to life with powered motion. It runs on AAA batteries (not included).

The standard set ships with no motor and no electronics — add the kit only if and when you want the powered version.

Important: The standard set contains no motor or electronics. The motor kit is a separate purchase.

🔧 Design & craftsmanship

Mechanical detailing: Layered armour plates build up the beetle's segmented shell, while the underside and joints expose the mechanical skeleton — a "specimen meets machine" look that suits a bookshelf, gaming desk, or collection cabinet. At 15.6 inches long, it reads clearly across the room.

Materials & craftsmanship: Bricks are high-toughness injection ABS with a firm, consistent clutch that holds poses and survives repeated rebuilds. Joint parts are precision-moulded so the legs and horn joint move smoothly without going loose. Edges are smooth and burr-free for comfortable handling.

🎓 What you'll learn (STEM)

Building it walks through insect body structure — head, thorax, abdomen, six-leg layout — alongside mechanical joint logic and load-bearing assembly. A hands-on mix of entomology and engineering that also trains spatial reasoning and patience.

🎁 Who it's for & gifting notes

BR0013 suits adult builders, insect fans, STEM learners aged 14+, and collectors who want a mechanical display piece that's as much about engineering logic as it is about the insect itself. The poseable legs and horn make it a desk piece you can re-stage; the exposed joint structure rewards anyone who enjoys seeing how a mechanism works.

Compact gift box (13.8 × 3.0 × 9.3 in). Complete brick set — no batteries or extra purchases needed for the standard build. Ages 14 and up.

⚠️ Safety & care

Contains small bricks — choking hazard. Age 14+. Keep small parts away from children under 3. Don't force the leg or horn joints.

Dust with a soft dry cloth and keep out of prolonged direct sun. If you add the motor kit, follow its instructions and remove batteries for long-term storage.

❓ Real questions, straight answers

What builders ask before choosing this mechanical insect build.

"Does the beetle move on its own, or is it static?"

The standard set is a static, fully poseable display model. You pose the legs and horn by hand, and everything holds its position. If you want powered movement, the separately sold Motor Upgrade Kit installs into the body and runs on AAA batteries (not included).

"Are the legs and horn really poseable?"

Yes. Each of the six legs poses independently, so the beetle can stand, climb an edge, or brace for display. The signature long horn adjusts angle for a charging or resting pose. The joints are precision-moulded to move smoothly without going loose.

"How difficult is the build at 939 pieces?"

Mid-difficulty. The articulated legs and exposed joint structure are the most rewarding sections to assemble. Numbered bags and a full-colour illustrated manual keep each phase manageable. Suitable for ages 14 and up; one to two comfortable sessions.

"How stable is it on a desk or shelf?"

Assembled: 15.6 × 11.0 × 8.3 in (39.5 × 28 × 21 cm). The model stands on its six articulated legs. Tight ABS lock-fit keeps the body rigid during display. Place on a flat, stable surface — the broad shell is stable, but the legs are poseable, so re-check the stance after repositioning.

"What if a piece is missing or my set arrives damaged?"

Email admin@brickroyal.com within 48 hours with a short unboxing video and clear photos. Confirmed missing or damaged parts are replaced free — no return needed.

"Is this suitable for children?"

BR0013 is an adult collectible, recommended for ages 14 and up. Contains many small parts — not suitable for children under 3 (choking hazard). Younger builders must build only under adult supervision.

"Do I need to buy anything else to complete the standard build?"

No. The standard set contains 939 bricks and a printed step-by-step manual — everything you need for the static, poseable build. No batteries, no wiring, no extra purchases. The motor kit is entirely optional and sold separately.

Six Legs. One Horn. Every Pose Holds.

939 bricks. Poseable mechanical anatomy. Exposed joint structure. The standard build needs no batteries — the motor kit is yours to add when you want it.
